Today's teens care about the environment and taking care of our planet. How can parents be supportive of global values?

Teens today are reducing, reusing and recycling, and they are spending their allowances to support global ecology efforts and to buy eco-friendly products. Teenagers of this generation have grown up in an era where global warming is an accepted fact and saving the planet is a necessity, not a luxury. Because of these values, more and more teens are willing to step up and do something about helping the environment.

Green Websites for Teens

Helping your teen find information about environmental issues is a great way to show support for the causes she cares about. The Daily Green is a site both you and your teen can enjoy browsing; it’s full of great information about ways to help the environment. Ecosalon is another online site for you and your teenager to explore for ways to go green. Your green teen probably knows of many more websites as well.

Other Green Resources

Two new books are hitting shelves at just the perfect time for parents to learn more about supporting their green teens. The Green Teen: The Eco-Friendly Teen's Guide to Saving the Planet [Kedzie Press, 200]) is a new book that promises to be an excellent resource for both teens and their parents. Another book called Generation Green: The Ultimate Teen Guide to Living an Eco-Friendly Life [Simon Pulse, 2008] offers many ways teens can help the environment in their day-to-day lives. Both books are practical guides consisting of a great deal of helpful information.

Greening Your Home for Your Teen

There are many ways you can support your teen’s efforts to help the environment. You can purchase eco-friendly cleaning products, encourage family members to save energy in your home, and support green businesses. You can also help by learning about what some current environmental issues are. Knowing the latest information on global warming, what it means to live sustainably, and how to pitch in for the planet are efforts that will long be appreciated by your teen.

Knowing about the environmental efforts your teen supports can help you as a parent communicate more effectively with your teenager. Whether it’s by contributing to environmental efforts yourself or learning more about the efforts your teen supports, it definitely can be easy being green.
