Gas costs too much to go anywhere- so stay home and throw a pool party! Here are some tips for a successful swimming shindig.
Splash up a great time this summer in your family’s swimming pool! The Right InviteOf course, you can always do the eVite thing – and there are many cute pool party invites – but if you’re feeling creative, consider making your own creative, inexpensive invitations sure to impress your neighbors and friends! At the dollar store, buy clearance flip flops in a variety of sizes. With Sharpie markers, simply write the invite info on a single flip flop, attach some magnetic tape to the back and send it off in a manila envelope (add pool stickers for flair). Or, buy inflatable pool rings, inflate them, and write the invite info on them. Deflate, fold and send. Guests will have to inflate them to read the details, and your party is fun already! Light it UpUnderwater pool lights are all the rage in floatation fun- pick up a floating disco ball to turn your pool into a dance floor! For a more laid-back pool party, floating candles come in many varieties and look fantastic. Pool FloraIf you don’t have palm trees, you can pick up inexpensive potted palms from a home improvement store to place around the pool. Add white or colored lights- and if you see a light-up pink flamingo, it might make a fun addition as well. You can also float magnolia flowers in the pool – they look and smell beautiful. Tiki to GoThere are now companies you can hire to bring a tiki bar to your pool! They come complete with frozen drinks, sound systems, bartenders- you name it! They look gorgeous near the pool and are literally a party on a trailer – worth the money if it’s really going to be a special event. Don’t forget the little drink umbrellas! The Little ThingsMany details go into a successful pool party. You’ll need a huge stack of clean, dry, folded towels available for everyone who forgets, some dry t-shirts for folks who might end up "accidentally" swimming, and some available sunscreen, bug spray, goggles, pool toys, etc. Make a big basket or steel tub filled with these items for easy access to your guests. Another thing kids love at a pool party is plain old paint brushes- ‘painting’ the pool deck with water is always fun. Get some water balloons if you really want the kids to go crazy! Most importantly, sit back, relax, stay cool and have fun! Read more about ideas for creative Outdoor Living.
