Here are some ideas for how to help de-stress your teen and put a grin on that oft-pouty mug of theirs!
Let’s face it, being a teenager is NOT EASY. The pressures of school, social issues, and yes, parents, can make an already emotionally unstable time in your life even more stressful. Not to mention the hormones! So what are some ways we can tell our teens we love them despite all their moodiness and drama? Teens at the SpaA visit to the spa doesn’t just have to be for adults. Teens benefit greatly from facials, which can help clear their skin. Massage is also wonderful for teens who carry a great deal of stress on their backs along with those heavy backpacks. A manicure and pedicure is also a really nice treat for teens who can tend to be self-conscious. Anything that makes teens feel better about themselves is worth the expense. Also- you can sneak in a pedi for you- while you're waiting! Out to EatSometimes the simple act of taking a teenager out for a meal alone with you is appreciated and creates good results in terms of communication. Especially if there are other siblings in the family, often teens don’t get a chance to have that face-to-face interaction with you that a nice meal out can provide. Take your teen to their favorite restaurant for a little one-on-one time- and don’t wait for a special occasion! Curl Up With a Good Teen BookWith all of the text messaging, Myspace, and instant messaging that teens do- and also tv, video games and ipods- on a regular basis, they are often overwhelmed by media and ‘screen time.’ By treating him/her to a new book or book series, you can encourage your teen to curl up on the sofa with a good book. There are many great books on the market for teenagers, and reading for pleasure (instead of for school!) will help them enjoy a much-needed escape from the ‘real world.’ Time Out for TeensNo doubt the most popular place for teens to visit is the mall. And it is always nice to treat them to a trip to the mall with a friend. But what are some other activities teens can enjoy as a treat from you? Movie tickets, a bowling night out with a pal, or a visit to the ice skating rink might be just what the doctor ordered for teens who need some fun after a long week at school or work. Also, your teenager will appreciate the fact that you have thought of something they would enjoy and provided transportation and/or financing! Read more about:
